Week 28: Cerritos

This week has been a testament to me that God is truly in the details of each of our lives.

Our friend Alfredo, who was going to be baptized this coming Sunday, called us last Tuesday and told us he had decided to move back to México in two days. We were so sad.

But we had this amazing lesson right before he left on the Restoration of the gospel. He shared His story with us and it was amazing to hear even more miracles in his life to lead him to this point.

He grew up close to members of our Church, even worked for many years in Mexico for a bakery owned by a member of the Church. This member was always a good friend to him and even helped him move here. Before his wife passed away, she listened to the missionaries and he felt that the missionaries brought her hope and were keeping her alive.

That all prepared him for that day a few months ago when we were passing by him sitting on his chair outside his house and we asked if we could share a message with him about the restored gospel of Jesus Christ.

We taught him about the Book of Mormon, and the next visit we taught him about the Plan of Salvation and how by following the gospel of Jesus Christ it is possible for him to be with his wife again. We taught him that baptism was the first step and invited him to be baptized. He was so excited, and said he really wanted to get baptized on August 20, his wife's birthday. So we were working towards that.

It's been amazing to see the miracles that have come as he has strived to follow the gospel of Jesus Christ. He was able to leave his job so he could come to church on Sundays. He also begin living the word of Wisdom and completely gave up coffee.

He loves the Book of Mormon and temples and has such a strong testimony of the restored gospel of Jesus Christ. He is so much happier now. And he has a hope of seeing his sweet wife again.

He is so excited to find the church and be baptized once he gets back home to México.

Although we are sad to sad to not be a part of this final step of his journey, it was never about us. This is a Testament that God directs this work. He is in control. And I am so excited for Alfredo to make this covenant with God.

This week, we had a trial of faith that really showed me how much God loves His children. On Thursday night, we got a call that Hermana Young's 17 year old brother Evan Broke his neck in a climbing accident. It was so tender to be there with her in this moment. It was really sad. But we could feel that we were not alone in that room. There were angels with us that night, and there have been angels, both Heavenly and mortal, with us and with her family since.

I would like to invite each of you to pray for Evan. He has already seen so many miracles, but has a long Road to recovery and I know that Heavenly Father hears our prayers and will be with Evan every step of the way.

I love you all!
