Week 15: Cerritos

Another great week in Cerritos! We've been focusing on finding and teaching families. The Lord has revealed that "an eye single to the glory of God" qualifies us for to be missionaries (D&C 4:5). We know that God's work and glory is to "bring to pass the immortality and eternal life of man," (Moses 1:39)  which means for us to return to live with Him and our families. The Lord is truly working miracles in Cerritos to gather families.

We were walking back from a lesson with Conchita when we saw a couple, Daniel y Marciel, and their toddler standing outside of their trailer. We stopped to talk with them and turns out they had just arrived from Mexico! We were able to teach them from the Book of Mormon and are going back this week.

We had a lesson with Andre's family (the Gonzales family)! They were taught in the past but we were finally able to have a lesson with them and have dinner with them. We are so glad we get to start teaching his parents and developing a closer relationship with them.

We had a really sweet Spirit-filled lesson with an amazing family from our ward, the Lopez family. We testified about missionary work and how the Lord needs them as missionaries. We asked them if they would help us to teach the Perez family and they said yes!*

We had a great lesson with the Perez family about praying, reading the Scriptures, and going to church. We went back later in the week to give them a Libro de Mormón with our testimonies in it. Both times they said they were planning on coming to church but they didn't show up :( Please keep them in your prayers that they will choose to come this Sunday!

*Side note: Earlier that day, we had lunch with Hermana Carranza, who is from Honduras, and I could hardly understand her at all. After our lesson with her, I felt really discouraged. I realized how much I needed to rely on the Lord. The Lord humbled me in preparation for a really sweet experiences where He was able to testify to and through me the importance of the gathering of Israel and the divinity of my mission call to California Anaheim to the Lopez family. I love the Lord and am grateful for His perfect timing and loving correction.

Because of Christ, we can CHANGE. That is the whole point of our life here on earth. Recently I studied a BYU devotional by Brother Brad Wilcox called "His Grace is Sufficient." He gives the analogy of piano lessons. A mom pays the piano teacher for piano lessons and in turn asks her child to practice. The mom wants the child to practice, not to repay her, but to take advantage of this gift she has given and use it to change and have a better life. In the same way, the Savior has paid the debt to justice. He turns to us and asks us to practice-to live His gospel (faith, repentance, baptism, gift of the Holy Ghost, and continuing to be follow Him). We practice so we can use this gift He has given us to CHANGE.

I am so grateful for a Savior who loves us enough to help us change. I know He loves you!

Hope you all have a great week!

-Hermana Dudley
